The behavioural approach in psychology is one of the major theories and it was largely developed to react to the non-scientific and mostly untestable perspectives being put forward by some psychologists. Having the artist in the right studio with the right sound, and making sure the right energy is there, makes a huge difference in the recording. When it comes to sound recording the audio engineer has more responsibilities than just recording the sound of the artist. The recording engineer is responsible for the planning of the session, room set up and microphone selection (Kurlander J, 2010). The planning of the recording session is very important in order for the recording to go smoothly and have minimal mistakes. â€Å"Having a target when recording a track or album is an important thing because it focuses the mind† (Platt T, 2006). This is important in order to have a recording session that is going to flow the right way. Having to constantly stop while recording can change the mood and vibe of the session which can change the result of a recording dramatically. The quality of the material has an enormous influence on the mixing stage† (Izhaki R, 2008). When setting up to record, whether its for a live band or in studio, it’s important to get the correct microphones, set their position, prepare the instruments and suggest to the band that they run through their material before starting. You want to make sure all your gear is set up, making sure your gain structure is correct and that you have tested everything and made sure it’s all working. Want it to really connect with an audience and for the audience to see and feel that vision and emotion through their song. It’s the engineer’s microphone techniques that capture the vibrancy of the band and their performance (Bartlett Bartlett 2009, pg 5). The techniques the engineer uses to mic up an instrument will determine what sounds the microphone will pick up and send. This procedure is very important in receiving the right tone from the instrument. How far or how close the microphone is, at what angle the microphone is, and where the microphone is set up in the studio whilst recording will determine what sound the microphone will receive. But most important of all is what type of microphone is being used. Each microphone has different characteristics and dynamics, as do instruments. This being the case, there is a microphone suited for every instrument, to enhance its sonic characteristics (JMC Academy, 2011). There are many ways to set up microphones when recording an instrument or vocal. Some ways are better then others. â€Å"The longer you are prepared to experiment with positioning microphones, the more successful your recording is likely to be† (White P, 1995). Editing, as well as the mixing process, is generally done on a digital audio workstation, also known as a (DAW). This allows the sound engineer to edit each separate track, if need be, by cutting and deleting any unwanted noise or gaps, replacing bad notes with good ones, creating rhythmic loops, correcting bad timing and much more (Bartlett Bartlett, 2009, pg 252). The editing stage can involve a lot of work; some tasks will require more skills than others. But this can all be done with a handful of easy to use editing tools and of course the creative know how of the sound engineer (Inglls S, 2011). The mixing process is where the recording is fine tuned by applying different effects, plug-ins and applying equalization. Some engineers say mixing is an art and others such as Declan Gaffrey say it is a performance. Mixing is a creative process whereby what is recorded evolves into what the audience will hear. What the audio engineer is trying to do in this process is portray the feeling or emotion in the song, set the scene and have the audience really connect with it (Jacques D, 2011). Engineers use different effects, plug-ins that can enhance and/or change the tonal sound of an instrument or vocal making it sound fat, thin, muddy, tinny, clean, dirty and much more. Delays and reverbs can be used to create an atmospheric texture (Gaffney D, 2009). During the mixing process it is essential to maintain a sense of balance. The balance is where the instruments sit in the mix, making sure other instruments are not too loud or too soft or interfering with other sounds. When mixing, it’s not just about making something louder, it’s about how the whole thing grab you, and being able to listen to what all instruments are all doing together. At the end of the mixing process the final step is the balance of the track or album. Working on the volume of each separate instrument, arranging them so they all still well in the mix. This is called the mastering stage. Mastering includes enhancing and/or tweaking the sound to make it more powerful, louder, softer or cleaner, depending on what the artist wants. Mastering the audio is not changing the tonal sound of the instrument, which is done in the mixing process, it is altering the volume of the track and the overall volume of Page (5 of 8) the song. Tools are used in this process such as compressor, which allows the engineer to control the sound threshold of an instrument (Saulner J, 2010). Last step for the engineer is formatting the audio track(s) ready for manufacturing on CD, digital, vinyl or cassette; each one of these has a different format. Most of the time when people look into the future they look far into it, not in the next several years. The future is usually defined as twenty or more years beyond the present. Many movies and stories written about the future world seem to have the common theme that technology will play a big part in the development of the future. The development of technology will lead to the advances that will take the world into the next century and beyond. George Lucas' film THX 1138 and Robert Zemeckis' Back to the Future are both examples of movies that portray technology and the advances of the future. THX 1138 and Back to the Future both portray technology as a danger to society that could ultimately lead to its downfall.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  George Lucas made THX 1138 long before he became famous in his later movies. He based the film on his movie that he used as his graduate project and thesis. It was his first attempt at directing and producing a Hollywood film. It is possible for the computer to monitor all of their vital signs and mental activity. Each person is carefully monitored and watched. The people are told what to do and act based on how they were trained. They work in shifts of labor and are almost extensions of the computer that tells them what to do. There is no more guessing about disease or how a person is feeling... ...This would mean that there would be no set future for the world. Each person would try to change the future so that everything would benefit themselves. The future however is very different between the two movies. In THX 1138 everyone is controlled by the technology that has created computers that can control things. Since, Lady Macbeth needs to make excuses for Macbeth’s interaction with the ghost of Banquo means that the ghost is only visible in Macbeth’s eyes. During Macbeth’s coronation banquet, Lady Macbeth pulls Macbeth asides and asks him the reason behind his inappropriate behavior. Macbeth becomes angry because Lady Macbeth robustly accuses him of lying. When Lady Macbeth calls Macbeth a liar he replies, â€Å"If I stand here, I was him†(3.4.89). Trying to convince Lady Macbeth of what he saw, Macbeth has to prove to himself that he witnessed Banquo interrupt the feast. Baquo’s ghost is a figment of Macbeth’s guilt. Macbeth tries to convince himself that he sees a ghost and is not going mad. After realizing he is truly the only one seeing Banquo’s ghost Macbeth comes to the conclusion that â€Å"This [seeing Banquo’s ghost] is more strange / Than such a murder is†(3.4.98-99). Fear cuts deeper than a sword. Similar to his earlier epiphany, Macbeth accepts the fact that Banquo is dead on Macbeth’s account. When Macbeth returns to the table he proposes a toast that, â€Å"I drink to th’ general joy o’ th’ whole table / And to our dear friend Banquo, whom we miss†(3.4.108-109). Now, in a stage of acceptance, Macbeth is able to tame the million thoughts fighting in his head. Macbeth is in a state of denial. To insure himself that he is not going insane, Macbeth tells Banquo’s Ghost that â€Å"Thy bones are marrowless; thy blood is cold / Thou hast no speculation in those eyes / Which thou dost glare with†(3.4.114-116). Similar to when Macbeth tells his wife he saw a ghost, Macbeth tries to remain sane. We are not exposed to our real personality until something really awful happens. It seemed like these new revelations had gone against everything these people had been previously taught or conceived to be the truth. Millard then states that because of this all too common thought-pattern among Americans citizens she is taking up writing this piece in hopes that readers will rediscover their deeply rooted Christian heritage in this country and throw out the falsehoods and stories they had been taught up to this point. I did find one point particularly interesting Catherine touched upon. She raised the question of why when talking about our early beginnings do when spend so little time (this class being the exception) discussing things pertaining to the founding period of our country. Overview of the Rajput People of India A Rajput is a member of northern Indias Hindu warrior caste. They live mainly in Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh. The word Rajput is a contracted form of raja, or monarch, and Putra, meaning son. According to legend, only the first son of a king could inherit the kingdom, so the later sons became military leaders. From these younger sons was born the Rajput warrior caste. The term Rajaputra was first mentioned around 300 B.C., in the Bhagvat Purana. The name gradually evolved to its current shortened form. Origins of the Rajputs The Rajputs were not a separately identified group until the 6th century AD. At that time, the Gupta empire broke up and there were repeated conflicts with the Hephthalites, the White Huns. They may have been absorbed into the existing society, including leaders into the Kshatriya rank. Others from the local tribes also ranked as Rajput. The Rajputs claim descent from three basic lineages or vanshas. Suryavanshi, the Solar Dynasty, descended from Surya, the Hindu Sun-god.Chadravanshi, the Lunar Dynasty descended from Chandra, the Hindu Moon-god. They include major sub-branches of Yaduvanshi (Lord Krisha was born into this branch) and Puruvanshi.Agnivanshi, the Fire Dynasty descended from Agni, the Hindu god of fire. This lineage has four clans: Chauhans, Paramara, Solanki, and Pratiharas. These all are divided into clans who claim direct patrilineal descent from a common male ancestor. These are then divided into sub-clans, shakhas, that have their own genealogical creed, which governs the laws of intermarriage. History of the Rajputs Rajputs ruled many small kingdoms in North India from the beginning of the 7th century. They were an obstacle to the Muslim conquest in North India. While they opposed invasion by the Muslims, they also battled among each other and were loyal to their clan rather than uniting. When the Mughal empire was established, some Rajput rulers were allies and also married their daughters to the emperors for political favor. The Rajputs revolted against the Mughal empire and led to its downfall in the 1680s. In the late 18th century, Rajput rulers formed an alliance with the East India Company. By the time of British influence, Rajputs ruled most of the princely states in Rajasthan and Saurashtra. Rajput soldiers were valued by the British. Purbiya soldiers from the eastern Ganga plains had long been mercenaries for Rajput rulers. The British gave more self-rule to the Rajput princes than to other areas of India. Upon independence from Britain in 1947, the princely states voted for whether to join India, Pakistan or remain independent. Twenty-two princely states joined India as the state of Rajasthan. Rajputs are now a Forward Caste in India, meaning they do not get any preferential treatment under the system of positive discrimination. Culture and Religion of Rajputs While many Rajputs are Hindu, others are Muslim or Sikh. Rajput rulers exhibited religious toleration to a greater or lesser extent. Rajputs generally secluded their women and were seen in older times to practice female infanticide and sati (widow immolation). They are usually not vegetarians and eat pork, as well as drinking alcohol.
